ABOUT US

Ponce Yacht Club is not only a marina, but also a family recreational club; among our members we also have families and individuals who are not boaters.

The Ponce Yacht and Fishing Club, also known as the Ponce Yacht Club, is a non-profit institution created by the initiative and vision of Pedro Juan Serrallés and a group of friends who envisioned the idea of forming a club around the year 1938.   The process of bringing this great idea to life was not easy; they faced many challenges, but their determination and perseverance made it possible step by step. The construction of the clubhouse was completed in April 1941 and was inaugurated during the weekend of July 19 and 20 with parties and regattas attended by boats representing the San Juan and Mayagüez Yacht Clubs. To reach the clubhouse, one had to board a launch. However, this first version of the club had a short life, as in 1942, with the declaration of World War II, the United States Navy seized it. Both the Navy and the Coast Guard used it as a watch station. After the war, a group of friends resumed their meetings to reorganize the club and reopen its facilities on what was then known as Isla de Gatas. They contributed financially to cover expenses and pay off debts—these were the Founding Members.   The Club was inaugurated on Sunday, June 6, 1948, and was incorporated on June 11 of the same year in the corporate registry. Its original purpose was to serve solely as a marina, but over time it expanded to include various water sports such as sport fishing, regattas, and family and recreational activities. Over the years, membership has grown, and not all members are necessarily boat owners.   Currently, the marina has 174 docks and three T-Docks, and there are 82 land spaces for trailerable boats. We offer fuel and boatyard services for vessels. We also work with independent contractors who provide various services, including mechanics, painting, and more.   Our Club is full of history. During these 83 years, we have had 40 Commodores and their Boards of Directors, whose contributions have been incredibly valuable and essential to making the Ponce Yacht Club what it is today.   The various Commodores and their Boards of Directors have worked—and continue to work—tirelessly to offer members renewed facilities, social activities for all ages, high-quality sporting events, innovative communication systems, and to keep the Club at the forefront. Being a member of the Ponce Yacht Club is a privilege!
